When do you hit 1,000 days together?
A thousand days is a little over two years and nine months. A couple who started on 12 March 2021 reached 1,000 days on 6 December 2023 — and the counter above gives the exact date from your own day.
The milestones most couples mark are 100, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 days. There is no rule to it: they count because they're round, and because they're an excuse to leave the house.
How to work out months together, and the monthly anniversary
A monthly anniversary falls on the same day of the month it all started. Start on the 12th and you mark every 12th.
What breaks the mental arithmetic is months of 30 and 31 days, plus February: if you started on the 31st, April has no 31st. The counter above handles that by using the last day of the month when the exact one doesn't exist.
Which dates are worth marking
Beyond the yearly anniversary, the round days: 100, 500, 1,000. And the ones only the two of you know — the first date, the first trip, the day the dog arrived.
It's that second list that fades. Nobody forgets the anniversary; almost everybody forgets which month the first trip was.

What if you don't know the exact date?
This happens more often than you'd think. Plenty of couples have no fixed date: there was a first date, there was a first kiss, and there was the “so, are we together?” a few weeks later. None of the three is more correct than the others.
The practical rule is to pick one together and stop changing it. There is no right date, only an agreed one. Most people use the day they made it official, but the first date works just as well if that's the one you count. What ruins the math is switching your reference every year.
Why so many people count the days
An anniversary comes once a year. Counting days turns the relationship into something you follow rather than something you remember now and then — the same difference as checking your balance instead of your yearly statement.
And there's the practical side: a round number is an excuse to celebrate. Five hundred days, a thousand days, two thousand days. These dates exist on nobody's calendar, which is exactly what makes them yours.
The names of dating anniversaries
Anniversary names aren't just for marriage. Each year of dating has one, usually tied to the material people used to give that year: paper for the first, cotton for the second, wheat for the third, flowers for the fourth, wood for the fifth.

365 days, or 366 if a 29 February fell along the way. That's why the counter walks the calendar instead of dividing by 365.
